HOLOGRAPHIC DATA STORAGE

Access Optical Networks, Inc. is developing optical data storage products to meet the world's ever increasing need for data storage. The average company's data storage requirements triple every three years. Magnetic storage products are failing to keep pace due to limitations on rotational speeds and single layer storage densities.

By storing data using 3D volumetric storage technology, AON is able to overcome the density problem and remove the rotating disk and moving heads found in traditional storage devices. AON's technology stores pictures of data in a memory cube. The data is retrieved by flashing laser light on the cube to take new pictures of the data. This technique is much faster than current storage devices and holds many times more data in a single cube than can be stored on a magnetic or optical disk.

AON will be introducing an industry standard size storage device with a capacity of over 1 terabyte and sustained read and write speeds of 1 gigabit per second.

NETWORK ACCESS EQUIPMENT

Just as data storage requirements have been increasing dramatically, so has the speed of networks and the need to connect computers and storage devices to those networks. A complex network topology has evolved to make these connections. This topology consists of several layers of routing and switch equipment, which introduces potential congestion points and network latency. By collapsing this complex network topology, a true optical connection can be achieved. Access Optical Networks is accomplishing just that by deploying optical technology directly to servers, making network attachments faster and less complex.

AON has developed cost effective Optical to Digital Network Interface Units that permit direct SONET or Ethernet connections to any enterprise server, data server, or LAN Domain by using their high-speed peripheral bus and high-speed, high-density memory storage systems and algorithms. With AON's products, a true optical network from endpoint to endpoint can be achieved. AON's products seamlessly handle the mismatches in speed between the network and the attached devices and reduce the complexities present in today's enterprise networks.
